Human Beings have been blessed with the natural ability to manipulate materials to suit their needs. Mankind, since prehistory, has made tools and utilitarian objects from stone, wood, metal and fiber. Not only has humankind been driven to reflect the beauty seen in nature in these objects, but also strives to imbue in these object the beauty of workmanship. I believe that this is root of craft. It is craft that has developed and supported everyday life on various different levels. This is the cause to which I have devoted my life.
One's creations irresistibly allude to individuality, experience, and empathy. My discipline in woodworking has guided me to explore my creative capabilities. My recent work seeks to show how a traditional material: wood, manipulated by traditional techniques, resonates on personal and social levels in the present. The work is result of implementing repetitive processes in the fabrication of patterns. The use of repetition is not only an obsession; it is also a source of comfort. It is as much a creative endeavor as it is ritual. My work embraces process and change; it symbolizes the growth of human life, nature, and our surroundings.
